DDNK War Room!

Consensus Definition: War is typically a battle between good and evil, involving sacrifice, in order to undermine a competitor with a final goal of fulfilling a person's, or group of people's will.

Nathan's War Example:
An example of a war that best fits our working definition of war is the American Civil War. I believe that it fits very well because of three key phrases: involving sacrifice, in order to undermine a competitor, and a battle between good and evil. One of the details I have that support this claim is during the Civil War, the sides of good and evil were given to the North (good) and the South (evil) based upon their ideals. The South was portrayed to be evil because of their idea of slavery and sessession from the Union, while the North was the good that was trying to prevent these ideas from taking place.
Another detail that supports our definition is the sacrificing that went on during the war. Often this war entailed family members to fight each other, as well as the larger scheme of Americans fighting Americans. The final supporting detail I have is the undermining of the competitor. Specifically with this detail is the antics of Gen. William Sherman in the South, where he destroyed the railroads, conquered the Carolinas and burned Atlanta, a major transit and supply city of the South.

Kelsey's War Example
 The American Revolutionary War.
1. The Revolutionary War was between the original 13 colonies of America and Great Britian. The primary reason this war fits our definition in my opinion is because Great Britian was denying the rights of our citizens, although all colonies were under British rule. They were undermining their competitor because we were not a civilized country yet, thus we were an easier target although we came out on top.--"America Goes to War-The Revolutionary War" by Anne Todd
2. Personal sacrifice was very evident during the Revolutionary War with our 13 colonies losing some 217,000 people. People wanted freedom so much they were willing to give their life whether they had little to no experience to being the general of the militia.--Revolutionary War Records (ancestory.com)
3. During the Revolutionary War the most important goal was fulfilled for our country and our independence. We finally gained our freedom, our independence from the British. This is the most important piece to our history and without fulfilling this goal Americans would not be Americans.  Upon the end of this war we were finally free from Britain. --Digital History

Dominique's War Example
 World War 2
 1. WW2 was a battle fought between good and evil. Hitler and the Nazis are the evil side of this War, and the countries who came together to fight against them are the good.
2. WW2 involved an enormous amount of sacrifice. It is estimated that nearly 50 million people sacrificed their lives fighting in this war. In my opinion, there is not a greater sacrifice than the sacrifice of one's life.
3. In the end, after all of the battles, deaths, and hardship, a goal was reached, and a group of people was able to achieve their will. The Allies were determined the "winners" of the war.
